We recently ate in Marco Pierre White's as part of our Christmas party. On entering the restaurant I handed my lovely new Christmas coat along with my recently purchased scarf to the maître D and was shown to my seat. The ambiance was lively, cosy and it was nicely decorated. As our party was large, we were given the set menu but also offered the fillet as well as the rib eye which was a nice treat. I ordered the smoked salmon for starter, the fillet for main and the Eton mess for dessert. My starter was very tasty and presented as a pancake would be on a plate, flat with half a lemon wrapped in muslin on the top and a side plate with homemade brown bread and mini capers. I liked the simple presentation, it tasted good but maybe a little bit on the large side for a starter and it would have been nice to have maybe some frisee salad, pickled cucumber or even cream cheese or butter served with it? My steak was very tasty and even almost like it had been barbequed which gave it a lovely flavour and I absolutely loved the chunky chips. To finish, I had the fabulous Eton mess, it was beautifully presented in a martini glass on what looked like a Laura Ashley or Cath Kidston plate, which I thought was a lovely touch. It was a perfect finish. The staff were very efficient and friendly and the service was super speedy. The only pit fall of the evening for me and a number of other people I spoke with was that on leaving, our coats were impossible to find. At one stage there was the maître D, myself and 2 other staff members looking for my coat. I eventually found it myself 10 minutes later.
